Event work includes Great North Star (Closing Ceremony of the Great Exhibition of the North - Dir Bradley Hemmings, Writer Louise Wallwein), Freedom on the Tyne (Dir Tim Supple and writer Roy Williams), The Power of Performance for the 2021 Rugby World Cup cultural programme (Writer Simon Sharkey, Southpaw Dance and Pinwheel Arts), North of Tyne, Under the Stars (Pinwheel arts, NOVAK and writer Simon Sharkey), Night Watch at the Bram Stoker Festival and City of Light, City of Sanctuary Liverpool (The Lantern Company), Nature at Night (Light Night Leeds and British Library commission involving the creation of a 4 movement piece featuring the animal and bird sounds from the British Library sound archive). Roma also scored Weavers of Woolwich written by Booker Prize Winner Bernardine Evaristo. In 2023 Roma worked on Into the Blue (Tiny Dragon), creating an immersive score and soundscape for an immersive room transformed into a submarine with cutting edge video design and the sonic placement of whales, mermaids and underwater landscapes as audiences moved through the depths of the sea. Roma's music has also featured at numerous incarnations of Enchanted Parks (Gateshead) and Nightfall (Teesside) as well as further afield Christmas trails for Heligan Night Garden, Freedom Festival' and Leonardslee Illuminated.

Over the last few years, Roma has created scores and soundscapes for some nationally and internationally significant large scale events including RESURGAM (GDIF), which saw Bandaloop, vertical dancers from San Francisco perform to an original score featuring Rakhi Singh on the south facade of St Paul's Cathedral and the Opening Event for Edinburgh International Festival, 2024 (with Pinwheel Arts and Katy Fuller)

Below are some examples of work - incorporating recorded community voices, ambient or celestial textures as well as evidence of work with melody.

My practice involves writing music and designing sound for a wide variety of film, theatre and event projects. Whether the piece of work is completely focused on music created for and precisely timed to moving image or a looser evolving soundscape which feels different depending on where audiences are in a space, my main focus is always the same. I aim to inform myself and work collaboratively to ensure that however the piece is presented, all of the elements work together to create the moment in time we've all envisaged for our individual and collective audience to experience. World-building, creating the right atmosphere and mood through sound itself and the way the audience are experiencing the piece is what I love most. To achieve this I typically experiment, working with visual elements as stimulus and combining sonic textures, recordings, found sounds and electronic textures with more traditional musical instruments and conventions. I enjoy working on events and experiences of all scales with audience connection being my main aim regardless of scale.

Although she was born in Yorkshire, Roma has spent most of her life so far here in the North East. Roma's work has been part of projects which have enthralled and entertained audiences on a local, national and international level, playing to all ages and across many stages (in theatre, tv and film and public events at all scales). Many of these have been significant events/ installations celebrating the heritage of the North-East.
